According to 2020 data the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, regular physical activity can help children control weight and reduce the risk of developing health conditions such as heart disease and high blood pressure.

Breathitt County SNAP-Ed Assistant, in partnership with the Breathitt County Public School System taught the LEAP (Literacy, Eating, and Activity for Primary) Curriculum. During one visit with a Kindergarten class, the book, I.Q Gets Fit, was read to 24 students.

As part of the lesson, students participated in different physical activities and tried a healthy snack. Students learned the importance of eating healthy and participating in physical activity. Students were asked if they would ask their parents to make healthy snacks and if they would exercise at home. 100% of students indicated that they would make these changes, as well as encourage their parents to as well.
