The use of Social Media, during the pandemic, has opened up many doors for the Magoffin County Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Program. It has made programs available to people who would've otherwise never been engaged in our programming. Although there are many examples to share of instances when unexpected connections have been made, two of the longest reaching ones are two people who have requested information services across state lines.
One lady is located in Shelby, Ohio, and has requested our newsletter to be mailed to her home, along with any information about programs that we are having in our office. The other lady is a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, and has requested the newsletter and has also joined our local Homemakers' Club as a mailbox member. She has been excited about the monthly lessons that are being mailed in the newsletter, and has expressed interest in participating in some of the hands-on activities that our clubs provide for members.
There was initially lots of concern about virtual meetings, virtual lessons, and mailbox and Grab N' Go lessons and ativities, however, it has proven to open doors to new opportunities that we would never have imagined. Every attempt is being made to bolster the membership in our local clubs, and in addition, give services to those who request them from long distances. It has given a breath of fresh air to the efforts made to continue with our worthwhile programs.
