The Perry County Supplemental Nutrition Assistants Program Education (SNAP-ED) Assistant Senior and a local Health Care Recovery Center partnered to have a series of 7 nutrition education classes understanding the collation between nutrition and recovery. Using University of Ky Nutrition Education curriculum Healthy Choices for Every Body focusing on Food Safety and Food Security. Classes were started in Person when COVID-19 happened classes were move to virtual. In the process of moving from in person to virtual SNAP-ED assistant Senior would drop off lesson information to facility following a COVID-19 Health Protocol. Facility wanting to teach gardening as a part of nutrition, Food safety, and food security SNAP-ED assistant senior provided class with UK gardening information, and with pants, and Seed, Tomato plants were donated by Perry County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent. Some seed were given to clients via food boxes. The participants made a Victory Garden using an unused space in the parking lot between parking barrier and the fence using soil to fill in space. Planting a variety of vegetables, and sunflowers. Participants took care of the garden and SNAP-ED Assistant senior would assist in gardening. Participants using the produce for recipes provided by NEP SNAP-ED Assistant senior while watching virtual classes. At the beginning of classes all participants were given entry survey, Upon completion of all 7 classes participants were given exit survey showing 90% improvement Food Safety, and 95% improvement Food Security. Several participants stating this was the first time gardening and now realizing how much they enjoy gardening and eating Vegetables.
