The Menifee County School District provides students of Menifee County with academic enrichment opportunities through a 21st Century Champions Grant Program that was started in 2018 and has served 272 students. The program in partnership with the local community is customized and individualized to meet the specific needs of the school and its community. The grant provides support for students during non-school hours by offering tutoring when needed and other creative learning experiences. Due to covid-19, the Menifee County School System was unable to provide in-person summer school for the students. The Menifee County SNAP-ED assistant partnered with the Menifee county School Systems 21st Champions Summer School Program to provide at home nutrition education activities for the students. The program involved forty students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The SNAP-ED assistant used the Exploring MyPlate Professor Popcorn curriculum to provide easy and nutritious recipes for the students to prepare at home and one “grab and go bag” activity which provided a delicious nutritious summer treat for the students. 82% of students participated in the program. 21st Champion program officials stated that parents appreciated the hands-on nutrition education materials and activities and the students enjoyed doing the activities and recipes.
