The Mercer County NEP partnered with the Mercer County Family Resource Center (FRC) to reach 20 local youth who had an interest in cooking and wanted to learn more about healthy eating habits. The majority of the youth, along with their families, received food items each week via the “backpack program”. After gauging the interest the children had in wanting to try fresh fruit and vegetables, the NEP and FRC were able to procure a grant through United Way allowing each child in the program to receive a monthly box of fresh fruit and vegetables from the local Farmers Market. each month The NEP provided recipes each month for the students, using the items in their box. The NEP was invited by FRC to go LIVE through virtual videos for the children to view how to follow the recipes provided.
