A couple years ago a community survey showed the citizens of Hart County were interested in having an educational event with topics in agriculture and hunting.  Therefore the Hart County Cooperative Extension Service along with the Hart County Chamber of Commerce collaborated to offer the Hart County Farm, Gardening & Hunting Expo.

In September, 464 people attended the expo held at the Hart County Fairgrounds.  This event offered educational information in areas of native wildflowers and grasses, attracting butterflies and birds, how to eliminate ticks and mosquitoes, wildflower and food plot management, dairy demonstrations for kids, hands on animals demonstrations, hands on gardening techniques for kids, how to use that healthy foods in your recipes and gardening demonstrations.

96% of the participants surveyed from the expo plan on using some of the educational material they learned from the event on their farm or gardening area.  68% have already used information from the expo to help with improving their farm or garden.  14% have adopted a new practice change from attending the event.  87% of youth surveyed learned a new skills and was able to demonstrate that skill after attending the youth educational activities and sessions. Also, as a result of the program two extension clients are currently working with a University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food & Environment Specialist on improving their orchard with growing more fruit trees.
