Trigg/Caldwell Tobacco Merting

Author: Samuel Cofield

Planning Unit: Trigg County CES

Major Program: Tobacco

Plan of Work: Crop and Tobacco Production Systems

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Tobacco production remains a very important part of the Ag economy for many Trigg County producers making up 17% of the total Crop sales.  For producers, new diseases, increased regulations and as always the weather in 2019 made producing a high quality, high yielding crop very difficult.  Trigg and Caldwell Counties have worked together to put on an educational meeting each year to help them find answers to the issues they are facing in the field.  This year more than 50 producers attended the meeting.  They received a variety update as well as a research update and findings From Dr. Bailey on the 2019 growing season and it’s challenges.   Producers in attendance also received their GAP training for 2020, UK production guides, and workbooks to improve their on farm record keeping.  All producers surveyed felt the meeting and speakers were beneficial to their operation and would help them in making better management decisions in the upcoming year.
