In March of 2020 COVID-19 hit fast and furiously shutting down businesses and making social isolation necessary. The amount of information coming out through all media outlets was often overwhelming and unclear. The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service has always taken pride in being a reliable source of research-based information and 2020 has been no exception. The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension service quickly addressed the need to provide timely educational materials through newsletters such as Healthy at Home and Chop Chop.
The Christian County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) quickly recognized that these resources would be of utmost importance to the individuals and families of Christian County. In order to reach as many community members as possible the Agent for FCS disseminated both publications through Facebook, email and collaborations with local School Family Resource Center Directors.
Over the course of two months the Healthy at Home and Chop Chop newsletters made it into at least 868 homes across the county with the majority of families receiving each publication weekly for eight weeks.
The feedback from clientele has been overwhelmingly positive. Many families have stated that they look forward to receiving the publications each week. The Agent for FCS has received emails from community members thanking her for sending the resources to them. The agent will continue to work to get this valuable information into the hands of as many individuals and families as possible.
