Outcome: Initial Outcome
When the Extension offices were shut down due to the COVID19 pandemic, the beef Extension group decided to host a webinar series for beef cattle producers and agents. Initially five webinars were scheduled for every Tuesday in April and the first Tuesday of May. Topics included Bull Selection, Reproductive Management, Value Added Marketing, Management Technologies and Nutrition Advancements. These were initially available on Zoom with a live audience and all sessions were recorded and uploaded to YouTube for later viewing. After the first session, the remaining sessions were also broadcast on FaceBook Live. The Zoom portion has averaged about 65 producers and agents per session, with FaceBook adding another 200 plus engagements. The YouTube videos have also been popular averaging over 100 views. We have received many compliments on the program including the following comment received via email “I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed and learned from the webinars this spring. Thanks to all the presenters, each did a great job. I look forward to the new ones each month. Thanks again.”. These sessions have served multiple functions, first and foremost they have provided beef producers with up to date information during a time of limited direct access to Extension personnel; they have provided training to receive cost-share through the GOAP’s CAIP program and agents have used them for in-service training. Due to the success of the program and the fact that isolation is continuing to be encouraged, the program will be expanded into the summer.
