Cloverbuds: 4-H members in the Making

Planning Unit: Fulton County CES

Major Program: 4-H Family and Consumer Science Core Curriculum

Plan of Work: Enhancing Personal Development through Life Skills

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The 4-H Cloverbud program is designed to be noncompetitive, educational, activity-based, cooperative learning centered, safe, developmentally age appropriate, and success-oriented. By allowing children between the ages of 5-8 to participate in a positive learning experiences, it helps them to build life skills at a younger age.

The 4-H Cloverbud program began in 2018 in Fulton County averaging around 8 Kindergarteners – 3rd graders. Club meetings happen once a month after school at the Extension Office. Programing for the club is diverse in which we try to do a lesson from each of the 7 4-H Core areas. Our goal is for cloverbuds to be the stepping stone and door opener to our other clubs for the youth and parents.

We work closely with the school system and parents give their children permission to ride the bus to the Extension office for meeting. Teen Club members have been enlisted to help with club meetings, setting up, guiding members to their next station, and cleaning up. Each month the meeting set up is as follows: education, nutrition, hands-on craft, and physical activity.

This has been a great program for our county because cloverbuds are having 4-H hands-on experiences on a smaller scale. Opportunities to attend summer camp are available as well. Watching a cloverbud recite the 4-H pledge is also a humbling experience as an agent.  We are watching leaders grow up and learn life skills before our eyes! Parents have been very complimentary of the program and most of the cloverbuds who attend are repeat members!
