Annual Winter Agricultural Conference

Author: Samantha Anderson

Planning Unit: Entomology

Major Program: Grain Crops

Plan of Work: Grain Crops and Produce

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

As grain markets continue to see price volatility, producers must make conscious decisions to decrease input costs while maximizing yield. In cooperation with Purchase area agents, McCracken County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Samantha Anderson, identified the need to address these trends and their impact to local producers

The 2020 Annual Winter Agricultural Conference consisted of multiple presentations focused on grain pest and disease management along with discussions on storage options. Additionally, an update on tax policies, as related to production enterprises, was provided. Purchase area Agriculture and Natural Resources worked in conjunction with University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service specialists to provide this timely and relevant information to producers. An industry led dicamba training was also provided.

The conference was attended by approximately 200 producers and agriculture industry representatives from the Purchase area. Of those surveyed, 95% of attendees agreed that the conference as a whole was relevant to their needs.
