Major Program: Promoting Healthy Homes and Communities (general)

Plan of Work: Beneficial Lifestyle Choices

Outcome: Initial Outcome

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, families and individuals were encouraged to stay Healthy At Home. This meant that traditional Extension programming had to change. In an effort to still reach clientele and provide them with research based information and hands on activities to support that information and encourage a better understanding of it for those who may not be visual learners, the Mason County FCS Agent and program assistant worked together to provide different Programs On The Go to the community members in Mason County. Each week a new bag was set out for clientele to pick up. The bags included topics on two quick and easy recipes, two kid friendly recipes, physical activity at home, green cleaning, the importance of family times (2 separate bags), Plate It Up! Kentucky proud recipes (3 separate bags), boredom busters, and making your own spice mixes. Mason County also participated in the FACS Sizzlin’ Summer Series that promoted different FCS topics for the summer and being healthy at home. These topics included summer fun safety, grill safety, backyard Olympics, and spreading kindness. Programs On The Go bags were created to go along with each of these weekly webinars from the FCS Specialists. The recipe bags had videos that went along with them to show people how convenient it was to make them. The videos reached 3,469 people. There was also an educational video on how to use a dehydrator to make dried fruits and fruit leathers. That video reached 2,637 people. As a whole, the bags put together as Mason County FCS Programs On The Go reached 510 households.
