Allen County is home to major agriculture production. We take pride in our agriculture community. National Farm city week is held in November every year and to support our farmers we have a farm to table lunch at the extension office. This event is presented by the Allen County Extension Service, Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky Farm Bureau and local farmers. The purpose of this event is to show appreciation for our farmers and so stakeholders, elected officials and community members can get to know our farmers and learn about agriculture in our community.
This event begins with a welcome from the Cooperative Extension agents, followed by the introduction of the keynote speaker. The speakers are linked to Agriculture in some way and they talk about the agriculture industry in Kentucky and how you can support local farmers and agriculture. The meal provided is prepared from locally grown products and gives attendees a chance to consume foods grown from farmers in their community. This gives our producers a chance to promote their products and their farming operations.
At the conclusion of the event, we giveaway the table decorations consisting of fresh local produce. This event is always a great success and a remarkable way for us to promote agriculture in our community. We always look forward to this event as it is a great way to get the community involved and informed. We always get comments such as “thank you for having this event, I really enjoy this every year”. We will continue this annual event for years to come. .
