Face-covering Project for UK Children's Hospital and Madison County Agencies

Author: Jessica Hunley

Planning Unit: Madison County CES

Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Fostering Healthy Communities and Families

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Throughout the unprecedented times presented in relation to COVID-19, the Madison County Extension Homemakers rallied together to make and assemble masks for those in need.  The first round of masks were donated under the direction of University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital, in which Madison County Homemakers were responsible for donating 100+ masks.

Once the need was met at the Children’s Hospital, I aided, as the FCS Agent, to be the contact person and help coordinate a partnership with the Madison County Health Department & Emergency Management Agency in conjunction with our Madison County Homemakers Association.   This partnership between the Madison County Health Department, the Madison County Homemakers, as well as a few other various community groups, donated an abundance of face coverings/ masks for local use which aided local businesses and agencies to re-open and/or maintain healthy regulations according to guidance from the governor and health officials. The Madison County Homemakers donated another 100+ face-masks for our local businesses and were distributed via the Health Department contacts, in order to serve those most in need.  The majority of the donations went to aid the MEPCO home health agency, who provided the face coverings to be used for their patients and families.
