Ohio Valley Lumber Drying Association Meetings

There was one OVLDA meetings conducted in this reporting year.  The Spring 2020 meeting was cancelled due to the COVID situation.  The meeting lasted for two days. UK Forestry Extension personnel planned and facilitated the meeting. This was held on November 6-7, 2019 and was a joint meeting with the Souteast Dry Kiln club and held in Kinbal, TN at Cardin Forest Products.  The meeting included tours of Cardin Forest Products and Brown-Foreman Cooperage. The technical presentations included; Dr. Gene Wengert, Drying Thick Hardwoods, Dr Adam Rado Gazo, Industrial application of CT scanning of hardwood trees, logs, automated lumber grading; and myself (Mr. Bobby Ammerman), Machining Defects as They Relate to Drying. Forestry Extension personnel planned and facilitated this meeting. This meeting provided information and technical assistance to 21 hardwood industry people trying improve their drying facilities yields and production. A total number of folks attending this meeting was 53.  Based on exit evaluations the meeting attendees increased their knowledge of drying hardwood lumber by 4.3% and 2,046,105 dollars were saved or earned as a result of this meeting.
