Planning Unit: Rowan County CES
Major Program: Woodland Education
Plan of Work: Supporting Local Agriculture
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Approximately 80% of Rowan county is forested and well over half is privately owned. Morehead has long been a center for the forest industry and recent establishment of a white oak stave factory has stimulated interest in selling timber. UK Forestry Extension has produced several series based webinars over the years and Rowan County Extension has been a host site for several years. The 2017 Webinar Series included educational information related to Deer Management, Engaging People in Citizens Science and Tree and Log Grading. A total of 10 people attended the Rowan site and 2 Master Loggers received CEU hours for attending.Over 350 people attended all sites. Evaluation results following the program indicate that participants increased their level of understanding regarding all topics presented. Participants reported having increased capacity to manage their woodlands for quality timber production on a total of 250 acres. |
