Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

A small farmer in Clark County, Kentucky, requested assistance in getting a application completed for a high tunnel to grow vegetables. The farmer contacted the Area Agent for Small Farms Program at Kentucky State University to assist him with filling out the application in January 2017.  On July 2017, the farmer was approved for $10,000 dollars. On October 2017, the farmer had completed installing the high tunnel. The Kentucky State University Small Farm Program is an extension program designed to help farm families with decision-making skills to solve farm and home problems. It includes educational programs that emphasize the use and understanding of USDA agencies programs and county cost share programs while providing technical assistance in completing applications and helping farmers through the entire application process. With this cost share program, the farmer was reimbursed $10,000 dollars which saved farm operation funds and increase his vegetable enterprise.  The farmer will be able to operate his farm independently and produce income adequately to service his debts, maintain his farming operations, and provide a reasonable standard of living for his family.
