Horticulture Webinar Wednesdays

Author: Kelly Jackson

Planning Unit: Christian County CES

Major Program: Home & Consumer Horticulture

Plan of Work: Insure Water quality through adoption of approved Best Management Practices.

Outcome: Initial Outcome

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Kentucky Horticulture agents started the Horticulture Webinar Wednesdays as an alternative to in-person horticulture lessons.  The live webinars are Wednesdays at 2 p.m. ET /1 p.m. CT.   Utilizing a volunteer scheduling website, agents, specialists and other experts were recruited to present a 30-minute lesson to the general public.  All the presentations are recorded, then posted to the Kentucky Hort News website along with the slides, notes, and a survey. The first thirteen sessions, from April to June, were watched live by 1,087 participants (between 80-140 each session) and the recorded videos have received 835 views.  The audience is composed of Master Gardeners achieving Continuing Education Credits, Extension personnel searching for in-service credit, Farmers fulfilling CAIP grant requirements, and others just learning something new for their own enjoyment. Horticulture Webinar Wednesdays are scheduled to continue through 2020.
