2017 National 4-H Congress

Author: Crystal Smith

Planning Unit: Letcher County CES

Major Program: Leadership 4-H Core Curriculum

Plan of Work: 4-H Leadership

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Letcher County had 1- Gold Achievement Winner that was honored to attend the 2017 4-H National Congress in November in Atlanta Georgia. Nicholas Stevens is a ten year 4-H member that has applied for the achievement application each year that he is eligible and received his Gold this year. In the coming New Year Nicholas plans to apply for his emerald. Nicholas was 1 of 30 youth that attended National 4-H Congress. Nicholas was the first youth that I as Letcher County 4-H Agent had to apply for Gold and be selected and received his Gold achievement. To be selected as a Gold Achievement winner the youth must be in a minimum of 10th grade and have earned level 5 clover for 4-H Achievement. Each District Submits 10 applications (70 total gold level applications submitted to KY 4-H Office) of which 30 applicants will be selected and awarded $160 scholarship to Teen Conference. Of those 30 applicants that are chosen will receive $750 Scholarship to Congress. Top 10 Gold applicants are eligible for emerald interview. The applicants have to complete a cover letter, resume, and power point presentation and then will have second interview during Teen Conference for Emerald Achievement. The top ten Gold Achievement will be recognized at 4-H Foundation luncheon/reception. This was a great experience and opportunity for Nicholas. I am beyond proud of Nick and the accomplishments that he has made in the Letcher County 4-H  achievement program and all of the goals that he has reached.
