In March 2020, the United States ended up taking on a new enemy in the form of a virus named COVID-19 or the Coronavirus. COVID-19 has slowed, if not stopped, the United States in almost every aspect from universities refraining from attending classes to businesses either shutting down their operations or limiting the number of employees that can work, plus limiting their hours of operations. The University of Kentucky’s Cooperative Extension Service has been no exception to the rules. The Cooperative Extension Service has moved all of their programmatic efforts to video format, and Jefferson County 4-H has continued to thrive during this trying time. The 4-H Program has developed a number of videos to meet social distancing standards. Such videos include teaching youth how to sew, how to cook, a video series focused on careers in agriculture, various craft videos. Jefferson County 4-H has also developed Virtual Day Camps, a series of lessons on various 4-H subjects that youth participants participate in and build on skills they’ve learned on the previous day. Although Jefferson County 4-H has not been able to meet with youth participants due to the social distancing guidelines in place, the COVID-19 Pandemic has not slowed down the delivery of programs that ensures the youth gaining life skills.
