The Appalachian Center at the University of Kentucky has a long history of providing data for counties in the region and in the state. To help in that effort, in 2019, I partnered with the Appalachian Center and with Cameron McAlister, we developed a custom series of data profiles for Kentucky counties in the Appalachian Region. Called “Eastern Kentucky: By The Numbers,” 54 profiles were created using data from 18 different sources on 61 variables for multiple time frames, and organized across 10 thematic areas including youth, education, health, substance abuse, coal employment, and poverty/income security. The profiles are available on the UK Appalachian Center’s website as well as the Kentucky: By The Numbers website.
