Kentucky Volunteer Forum

Author: Crystal Smith

Planning Unit: Letcher County CES

Major Program: 4-H Volunteer Programming

Plan of Work: 4-H Leadership

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

4-H youth development programs depend adult volunteers to promote, provide extension, and run extension programs. Extension provides extensive educational materials and opportunties for adult volunteers to learn and become certified volunteers through various program areas. 4-H is about positive youth development but witout the volunteers in programs it would not be possible to provide all of the positive youth development. 2020 Kentucky Volunteer Forum gave 1138 volunteers the opportunity to do so. Letcher County was part of the 112 counties that particiipated in the volunteer forum. Training our volunteers is so importatn in giving them the confidence that they need to provide quality 4-H programs and building the confidence of the volunteers is so importatn that is why I think that the Kentucky Volunteer Forum is so important for our aduls to attend. THis years forum gave the volunteers a chance to choose from 183 workshops in 18 different subject matters. The volunteers from Letcher Couny have strong interest in Horse, Livestock, young 4-Hers and cloverbud programming. I had the plearsure of working with the fourty-two youth memeber that attended Leadership BootCamp, memebers were from across te state. I tought a class on developing leadership skills and went through a lesson from the curriculmn unlock your leadership potential. 97.6% of the participants reported that due to their involvment in 4-H Leadership Bootcamp and Kentucky Volunteer Forum they are now prepared to run for Kentucky 4-H Officer positions or for leadership board positions. 100 % felt more confident in an interview setting, understanding the importance of an elevator speech, value the act of showing appreciation to others, and understand the value of teamwork. 97.6% of 4-H Leadership Bootcamp participants believe they will be letter leaders and will be able to easily implement skills they learned when they return home. For 2020 Kentucky Volunteer Forum I am very proud to say that I am from a disrtict, district 2 that had 100% participation in  the volunteer forum.
