Programs on the Go

Author: Alethea Price

Planning Unit: Boyle County CES

Major Program: Promoting Healthy Homes and Communities (general)

Plan of Work: Acquisition of Life Skills

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The COVID pandemic caused an abrupt change to all programming for Extension. Meetings, programs, and events were cancelled. Outreach still needed to be completed.

Instead of offering programs in person, the FCS Agent prepared kits for people to be able to safely stop by the office to pick up. Those programs could include activities, publications and incentive items. The FCS Agent created several varieties of these programs on the go to meet the needs of Boyle County residents staying safe at home.

One of the most successful kits was the Cooking at Home kit. It had 2 cutting boards, a spatula, measuring cups, measuring spoons, and other cooking utensils in the kit. It also included recipes, tips and tricks to preparing and storing food safely. The kits were free.

The FCS Agent made about 20 kits, all being picked up within 2 days. This was one of the most active social media advertisement posts for the month.

Plans for the future in the new normal include more programs on the go, videos to go along with the kits, and inventive incentive items to liven up the kits.
