Planning Unit: Boyle County CES

Major Program: Plate It Up! Kentucky Proud

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

In Boyle County the Horticulture Agent and FCS Agent partner regularly on programming and outreach. In 2019, the Horticulture Agent partnered with Centre College to start a CSA for the employees of the college. The FCS Agent would provide Plate It Up recipe cards for each of the prepared CSA share bags. It was extremely successful which led to another year. In 2020 we have continued to offer PIU recipe cards with each share.

Plate it Up! Kentucky Proud is a series of resources to promote fruit and vegetable purchase, preparation, and consumption within the context of Kentucky’s local food system. Recipe cards, demonstration guides and media scripts are used to create point of purchase awareness through social marketing and face-to-face programs. Plate it Up Kentucky Proud is a partnership project between the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the University of Kentucky School of Human Environmental Sciences. This project provides healthy, great tasting recipes using Kentucky Proud products for the people of Kentucky.

The CSA reaches 32 subscribers weekly. Each week the CSA bag gets one or two Plate It Up KY Proud recipes that include at least one ingredient in the weekly harvest.

This program will continue as long as the CSA is running. It started the first Monday In June 2020 and will run through October.
