COVID-19

Planning Unit: Pendleton County CES

Major Program: Accessing Nutritious Foods (general)

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Before COVID-10 I, SNAP-Ed Assistant,  was working with Johns Creek Kindergarten (3classes), first grade (3 classes) and second grades (3 classes), Mullins first grade (4 classes), and Bevins Elementary kindergarten (2 classes).   I was also working with two Christian schools, Valley Christian Academy and Christ Central Training Academy (all grades in both schools).

I lacked three classes finishing with the schools when the quarantine started.

I also was working with Senior Citizens Centers and Veterans’ Home.  I had just started with these classes, I had only taught two classes.

When this started, I thought ‘How am I going to play catch up to get all my missed classes in before the school closes for summer break and will my seniors and veterans come back to the centers to finish?’

Little did any of us know at the time what we were in for!

Since we have not been able to go back into the schools and are doing everything virtually, I have made contact with all (21) schools’ principals/media specialists and the directors for the senior centers and veterans’ home  to collaborate with them through their FaceBook pages in order to reach their students and families.

As of the month of April, we have reached 26,967 families.  My plans are to continue this once we are allowed to go back to teaching our students and adults face to face.
