Outcome: Initial Outcome
There is a first time for everything. After the dog club had worked so hard their first year, I asked our 4-H agent about the idea of having a dog show. Since we do not have students showing cattle or hogs we approached the local fair board. In conjunction with the fair board and 4-H we planned the first Carlisle County 4-H dog show. Categories were set up and prizes were arranged so students could receive a reward for their hard work and showing ability. By participating in the show we hoped students would improve and practice communication skills and gain poise and self-confidence while being in front of an audience. They could also practice skills they had learned in their dog club. The average number per class entry was 6. 99% of the parents bragged on the student’s ability with their dogs and showmanship. Each winner got a winning certificate of their class and a prize. All entries got a participation certificate. We had three judges who were involved with a dog rescue group. Each judge bragged on the event and agreed to do it again. The dog show was a huge success. I have attached a copy of one of the sample certificates.
