Major Program: 4-H Communications and Expressive Arts Core Curriculum

Plan of Work: Leadership Development

Outcome: Initial Outcome

In response to the Covid-19 epidemic, the 4H program created a partnership with the UK College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment and the UK College of Nursing to bring together both colleges to write letters of thanks, encouragement, and support to Health Care Providers on the front line battling COVID-19 across Kentucky and the rest of the United States. The idea was to encourage 4-H youth, community members and College of Nursing students and employees to write letters of support. From the time the colloboration started, up until the end of June, the Heart2Heart campaign has sent over 1200 letters/cards to 15 different states. We also received thank you letters from several hospitals where the cards were sent.

As a result of the campaign, other collaborations were formed. A local group called the Caring Cards foundation agreed to partner with us and donated 1,000 cards to help continue the letter writing campaign. The UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment has now expanded the Heart2Heart campaign to now include a letter writing campaign to support to now recognize the contributions of the Kentucky agriculture industry.  The agriculture industry is not only essential in providing a safe and efficient food supply, but also in supporting local economies.  The COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the challenges that agriculture workers face every day.
