Plan of Work: Commercial Agriculture- Education, promotion, and awareness.
Outcome: Initial Outcome
On February 6th, 2020 Extension agents from Marshall and Livingston Counties and the local Young Farm Educator collaborated to offer a farm bill training. The training was lead by Ballard County Extension Agent, Tom Miller. Tom has a knack for making the complex decisions that farmers face easy to understand. When surveyed one producer commented, "(Tom had) excellent explanations." The training was designed to help grain farmers make decisions related to the 2018 Farm Bill. The most noteworthy topic was "Agriculture Risk Coverage- County (ARC)" and "Price Loss Coverage (PLC)" programs. At the end of the program, participating farmers were surveyed. The survey results are as follows.
100% of the attendees indicated increasing their knowledge of farm bill programs.
93% of the attendees indicated the training helped them make decisions relating to their Farm Bill enrollment.
93% of the attendees indicated they gained knowledge of farm profitability for their farm enterprise.
87% of attendees indicated that they think this training will help them increase profits and/or reduce risk on their farms.
Livingston and Marshall County agents will continue to offer their communities quality educational programs.
