Covid-19 presented many challenges to the KY Cooperative Extension Service and those we serve.  Not being able to conduct in person trainings and hold meetings and events completely changed the way that daily operations were carried out.  The Metcalfe County Extension Service found unique ways of reaching clientele during the global pandemic.  While many scheduled events were cancelled or postponed, essential business was carried out in a timely and effective manner.

BQA, CAIP educational sessions, and Tobacco Gap trainings could not be canceled and it was necessary to make these available to producers through alternative delivery methods.  Throughout the shutdown, the Metcalfe ANR agent offered educational opportunities through video as well as online sessions.  Every producer  was able to meet CAIP and BQA requirements by taking advantage of trainings offered through alternative methods.  A total of 8 in person Tobacco GAP Trainings were also offered in the month of June following CDC guidelines.

While in person trainings and face to face interaction can never be completely replaced, technology and a willingness to adapt to change allowed Extension to continue to serve clientele in an effective manner.  As we begin to adapt to a "new normal", Extension employees and our clientele will continue to utilize new technologies and seek innovative ways to conduct business.  Whiile Covid-19 caused many hardships, it challenged us learn and successfully utilize new ways to meet the needs of the citizens we serve.
