Author: Erika Wood

Planning Unit: Hopkins County CES

Major Program: Home & Consumer Horticulture

Plan of Work: Expanding Opportunities for Technology, Sustainability, and Environmental Stewardship

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Since December 2019, gardening 101 videos have been created and posted on online social media sites such as Facebook as a way to expand horticulture education beyond traditional in-person classes.  Twenty-eight gardening videos have been created to date and include topics such as houseplant identification and care, terrarium and to-go gardening bag demonstrations, tree and shrub identification and maintenance, and annual and perennial flowers.   With the switch to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, these videos have served as a primary means of outreach to the citizens of Hopkins County for research-based, extension horticulture programming.  The videos are currently posted on the Hopkins County Extension Horticulture Facebook page where over 13,399 people have been reached with the videos, 1874 people engaged, and 104 video shares.
