Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
The spring of 2020 created challenges for farmers, consumers and communities alike due to the unexpected consequences of Covid-19. During this time businesses and offices were required to operate under much different circumstances than normal which created a ripple effect in production agriculture therefore affecting food supply and availability to consumers. As a result, Boone County Extension and other Extension offices were required to limit access to the public and were not able to host educational programs in person. In response, Boone County ANR Extension Agent filmed educational demonstration videos and collaborated with Boone County Horticulture Senior Program Assistant to film “Boone County: Between the Rows” both of which were shared with the public via social media sites and youtube channels that were created to reach a greater audience. These videos covered management topics like tagging ears in cattle, how to collect blood samples, installing temporary electric fencing, pond management, and virtual tours of local Boone County farms. These videos were extremely well- received and boasted views of over 600 apiece. These videos reached new clientele in Boone County and were a valuable resource to producers to use the videos chute-side and on the farm while in-person demonstrations and programs were not an option.
