Outcome: Initial Outcome

No question the COVID-19 Pandemic has created countless difficult situations for everyone. One aspect that has been impacted in Kentucky Youth Livestock Programs, has been 4-H Livestock Judging. Hosting an in-person clinic or contest with hundreds of participants has been impossible due to social distancing guidelines. Thanks to modern technology livestock clinics and contests have adapted to the unprecedented times here in the Commonwealth. A four-week, five-part video webinar series (over the months of April and May) was presented to Kentucky Youth and Volunteers over the basics of Livestock Evaluation. The final video in the webinar series included a live zoom conference call with a Q/A session. Additionally, Kentucky 4-H and FFA Youth were invited at the conclusion of the webinar series to partake in a Virtual Livestock Judging Contest. Although it could not take the place of an in-person Livestock Judging Contest, contestants found a way to channel their competitive spirit while sharpening their livestock evaluation skills. The webinar series and contest was a success that kept 4-H contestants involved during a time of much unrest.
