Planning Unit: Franklin County CES

Major Program: Securing Financial Stability (general)

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

A local thoroughbred breeding farm, training facility and riding stable that employs between 15 and 23 seasonal and full-time employees was struggling due to the pandemic. Horse racing was shut down and they were stranded at a closed track out of state.

We were discussing his dilemma - his income was limited with no relief in site and he was worried about taking care of his employees. I told him about the federal Payroll Protection Plan as part of the Corona relief act. He was unaware but interested. I contacted a local banker who was eager to assist. We had everything ready and set up when the funds became available and he received $145,000.

This forgivable loan allowed him to retain his current staff with pay and return to his training center in Kentucky and ultimately back to the tracks to race and train.
