Outcome: Initial Outcome
In response to the need to get information out during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mercer County ANR agent and Mercer County SNAP-NEP assistant teamed up to provide nutrition information through agriculture via the schools backpack program. Both had attended a training and received new curriculum resources through KY Agriculture & Environment in the classroom. They decided to promote National Beef Month (May) and National Dairy Month (June). The ANR agent recorded videos of accurate agriculture books about beef, dairy and soybean which were shared through the extension office facebook page. The NEP assistant coordinated with the family resource centers backpack program to determine how many materials were needed and deliver those materials. 75 students recieved 3 different activity kits, assembled by the NEP assistant and ANR agent, which included agriculture curriculum on beef, dairy and soybeans and healthy nutrition messages to help the students make the connection between their healthy foods and how it is produced. The curriculum and information distributed came through KY Agriculture & Environment in the classroom training and the UK NEP program.
