Major Program: Grain Crops
Plan of Work: Livestock, Poultry & Crops
Outcome: Initial Outcome
A local row crop producer contacted the local Extension office enquiring about the best source of Nitrogen for top-dressing wheat. His goal is to switch to 100% granulated Urea for top-dressing wheat, he is currently using liquid Nitrogen. The dry Urea will allow him to cover more acres in a timely manner. The Clinton Co. and Cumberland Co. ANR Agents setup an on-farm Nitrogen study for the producer. The nitrogen plots are replicated 3 times using treated granulated Urea, un-treated granulated Urea and 32% liquid Nitrogen. The ANR Agents mapped the field and measured each plot, marking the different treatment blocks with labeled flags. The producer used his own equipment to apply the Nitrogen to each plot. Each plot will be harvested in July 2020, moisture tested, weighed to determine yield per acre for each Nitrogen treatment. The producer will use the data to determine if the dry Urea will yield the same or more than the liquid Nitrogen before making the switch to 100% granulated Urea for top-dressing wheat.
