Planning Unit: Clinton County CES
Major Program: Beef
Plan of Work: Livestock, Poultry & Crops
Outcome: Initial Outcome
A local beef producer contacted the Extension office with a request for assistance on renovating an old barn to work cattle. UK Extension bio-systems and Ag engineering specialist along with the local ANR agent made a farm visit to view the existing structure and take measurements. The producer explained their goals, and how they would like the cattle to flow through the system. The UK specialist put together some options for remodeling the old barn to get setup for cattle working. The beef producer took some ideas from the designs and is currently in the process building a cattle handling facility in the old barn. The facility will allow the producer the ability to work cows and calves through the facility without having to load and move cattle to another facility. The facility will also help with the weaning and vaccinating process, thus allowing this producer to add value to the calf crop.
