Jack Friar was “The Stepping Stone” for Floyd County 4-H and is a man who many will always remember as their 4-H Agent.  Jack Friar retired after 30 plus years of service.  Jack was many things to many people; he encouraged many youth to continue their education and to pursue their dreams.  One of Jack’s passions was 4-H camp.  So in his honor, the Floyd County 4-H Council as directed by numerous leaders and alumni established the Jack Friar Memorial Scholarship Fund.   This fund helps to support the youth of Floyd County who cannot afford to attend 4-H camp each summer.  For the past ten years, through donations from 4-H alumni, homemakers, community members/organizations, local businesses and Extension supporters the scholarship fund has collected $35,505; which has provided 343 youth with a scholarship to attend 4-H Camp each summer.   “Having two children wanting to attend 4-H Camp really wasn’t affordable for my family.  But with the help from the Jack Friar Scholarship fund, my children were able to attend for six summers.  Meeting and making new friends, attending various fun filled activities, laughter and creating fun memories are just a few of the reasons my children returned year after year and are now teen counselors!” Thankful Mom of two.
