Major Program: Home & Consumer Horticulture

Plan of Work: Improve and sustain agriculture production

Outcome: Initial Outcome

With the coronavirus pandemic bringing a closure of Extension offices to the public and clientele being Safe at Home, continuing to provide programming for residents was at the upmost concern for agents and staff.  Agriculture and Natural Resources Agents in Harlan and Letcher County, Kentucky and Wise County, Virginia collaborated to bring a series of programs via an online format.  Timely, information brought by agents, volunteers and specialists from Kentucky and Virginia met the needs of clientele.  Fourty-eight sessions beginning in mid-March have had over 500 participants attend.  Clientele acquired information in home and commercial horticulture, insect management, lawn care, wildlife, natural resources, forestry, food preservation, beekeeping, and livestock.  Clientele that have attended online sessions have also provided ideas for sessions.

One farmer stated “I enjoy the programing because I can attend and interact from my home.”
