The Pulaski County Farmers report that this has been one of their most profitable years for selling fresh strawberries. Clients from Pulaski County and other counties in Kentucky have been shopping at local farmers sites to purchase the best strawberries in Kentucky. The two local farmers markets were not opened in May for the farmers to use these sites, so they had to rely on other social media to get the word out about the strawberries ready for consumption and freezing. One farmer reported that he had sold out of strawberries on many days and reported selling as many as 300 gallons in one day. This same farmer allowed clients in Pulaski County to visit the strawberry patch one day at the end of the season and pick their own strawberries at $1.00 a gallon, which was to pay for the plastic container. Pulaski County Extension has helped the farmers in Pulaski County by promoting purchasing strawberries from local farmers through social media, in the weekly newspaper article, and newsletters to clients featuring recipes using Plate It Up strawberries.
A video showing how to make, and freeze strawberries reported that more than 1,000 viewers had watched the video. According to the farmers, this has been a great season for the sale of strawberries, and they hope to increase their production next year.
