The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 was life changing. However; change is not new to the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service and those that are leaders and volunteers in the Cooperative Extension Service system. Members of the Muhlenberg County Homemakers Association began the production of cloth face masks for COVID-19 prevention soon after the federal government guidelines were released from the Centers for Disease Control in April. As of June 16, 2020, Twenty oneMuhlenberg County Homemakers and five community volunteers had made 5560 masks. They had volunteered a combined 3279 hours for a combined value of $83, 384.97. Masks were made for family members, friends, Church Families, health care workers, grocery store workers, and the general public. Many of these homemakers were themselves considered in the “at risk” category, yet they approached the mask making effort as necessary for the greater good of all.
