My! Has times really changed. For a person in their seventies, it is a whole new world. All meetings are on zoom, You Tube, and/or Facebook live. I love face to face contact and am learning to adapt. Although things are different, it does not prevent the 4-H program to be any less. Supplies are ready for pick up for those members who have signed up for certain county fair projects where we assign times to come in and pick them up and the same goes for cleaning our country hams. The certified dog leader made up agility kits for the dog members to pick up and she also sent video’s to the members by e mail where they practiced and then sent a video back to her where she logged their hours. Communications may have been the biggest challenge as the parents had to make a video and drop it off at the office or put it on Facebook or e mail it to the agent. I am so glad that the school judging had already taken place and the members with the score of 80 or above was invited to the county competition. Over ninety youth scored high enough to participate at the county level and thirty of those ninety was judged at the county level. Thirteen members are going on to the District competition in twelve categories. “Snag A Bag” will continue as long as the community picks them up. I collaborated with Cartmell Elementary School and we have 100 bags picked up every week. Talk about marketing….I put the announcement in the local newspaper that goes to 6,000 homes and on our Extension Facebook page where we always have at least 600 indirect views, plus the 100 families who are direct contacts by picking up the bags. This has been a great marketing tool for our office. Activities for all seven areas of 4-H has been ready for pick up along with our Agriculture and Family Consumer Science agents also supplying bags. Our office has remained open to our community and we have followed all of the procedures to stay healthy. I am a believer that if everyone would live every day by the 4-H pledge, they would be very successful. Here is a flyer of my 4-H members in their own home with their sibling(s) explaining how the 4-H pledge can be used to stay healthy.
