The Lawrence County Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP-Ed) assistant partnered with the Family Resource Center at Blaine Elementary School to provide the Healthy Choices for Every Body nutrition program for parents and/ or guardians of the children in the angel tree program. The participants engage in the classes in order for the children to receive gifts and food baskets for the Holidays.  The seven required lessons were taught and recipes from the NEP calendar were sampled and kitchen reinforcements were provided during each lesson. The SNAP-Ed assistant enrolled and graduated 7 parents and/ or guardians.

As a result, participants improved in their diet quality and food safety, 100% eat dark green vegetables more often each week. 57% drink regular soda and fruit drinks, sweet tea, and sports drinks less often; 57% cook dinner at home more times a week. 100% use a meat thermometer more; 86% thaw frozen food at room temperature less often. 71% clean items/surfaces more often after contact with raw meat or seafood.
