The Lawrence County Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP-Ed) assistant partnered with the Family Resource Center at Fallsburg Elementary School to provide the Healthy Choices for Every Body nutrition program for parents and/or guardians of the children in the angel tree program. The participants engaged in the classes in order for the children to receive gifts and food baskets for the Holidays. The seven required lessons were taught during the 2019 fall season. Recipes from the NEP calendar were sampled and kitchen reinforcements were provided during each lesson. The SNAP-Ed assistant enrolled and graduated 8 participants.
As a result, participants improved their knowledge of food safety practices and food resource management as follows: 88% use a meat thermometer more, 75% plan meals before shopping, as well as, 50% compare food prices and check cupboards before shopping.
