Outcome: Initial Outcome

The 2020 Leadership LaRue Ag Day was held on March 12th 2020 with 12 participants from the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership LaRue 2020 Class. The event is to help educate our community about the changes that have occurred in agriculture over the past years and to highlight the positive impacts they make on our local economy. This behind-the-scenes look at local agriculture allowed community leaders the opportunity to meet the hard-working farmers and producers who keep the heritage of agriculture alive and viable in LaRue County.

We started the day at the extension office and learning about the extension office, and then heard from panel of local agribusinesses that talked about how essential agriculture is to their businesses.

The panel consisted of a realtor/auctioneer, trucking company, two loan officers from different banks, a local retail ag service. We then spoke with and toured 4 local LaRue County farms. Cattle, wholesale/retail orchard/vegetable/flower operation, grain operation, and blueberry farm. Each farmer gave a personal glimpse into his operation and some of the unique situations farmers in the 21st century have that non-farmers might not think about. They also talked about the economic impacts they make to the local economy and how much they utilize our Extension service.

This Leadership LaRue Ag Day is a recurring event that the LaRue County Extension offers every year. It's a great way to showcase some of the great farming businesses in LaRue County and show how extension is a critical part in their successful farm businesses.

90% of participants said they learned something new about local agriculture. 90% said they learned more about the positive impact the LaRue County Extension Service provides to our local farmers.
