Graves County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences offered a newsletter-based walking program designed for individuals who have not previously been physically active or who have not been physically active in a long time. There were three scheduled in-person meetings. The challenge was kicked off with a presentation from a Community Outreach Coordinator at the Market Cancer Center focusing on Get Fit Be Smart. The local health department opened their gym to the walking challenge clients to have an indoor place to walk when needed. There were 32 participants. Eighty-two percent of participants increased the amount of walking that they did on a weekly basis. Seventy-five percent of participants examined ways to set goals for walking. A follow-up evaluation revealed that 41% percent of participants are still engaging in weekly physical activity.
