Kohl’s National Giving Award is a purpose-led organization that strives to make a difference in communities nationwide and partner with organizations that help families lead fulfilled lives. The Pendleton County Extension Office was honored to receive the Kohl’s National Giving award for 2019.  Pendleton County Extension is excited to be one of five organizations to receive a $10,000 grant to focus on addressing vital community needs.

Due to the Covid 19 restrictions; unemployment is rising, family incomes suffering and food access challenging.  The Pendleton County Family and Consumer Science and 4-H Agent decided to use these funds to provide food in our communities.  These efforts were made in several formats.

  1. $4,000 of Non-perishable foods to Butler Baptist Church who will distribute to families in the Butler area of the county.
  2. $4,000 of non-perishable food to Turner Ridge Baptist Church and Open Hands Ministry to that will be distributed to families in Falmouth
  3. $2500 in McDonald coupons (1200) for meals for students during the week of spring break
  4. Meals for school cafeteria workers and bus drivers that are working hard to provide lunches for our students while school is out.
  5.   The meals were provided with the community partners including:  Pendleton County School System, Wyatt’s, Smokin’ Pig, Tim’s Kitchen, and GFS

To date over 500 families have benefited from the faith based food distribution as a result of the food we supplied to them.  Our hope is to continue to support our local food pantries as we can.  Extension is encouraging others to donate.

Thank you to Kohl’s for recognizing Pendleton County Extension as an organization making a difference in our community.
