Author: Gary Hamilton

Planning Unit: Montgomery County CES

Major Program: Sustainable Agriculture

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Covid -19 Virus has affected our everyday life, our businesses, our economy and our livelihoods. To help our clientele meet the challenges caused by this pandemic, extra efforts have been made to present  important information while maintaining the required health guidelines . Examples of these efforts include: In March a Covid-19 Edition of the Montgomery County Extension Agriculture News & Events Newsletter was mailed out to 1035 clients. This Newsletter explained to clientele how the Montgomery County Extension Office would remain open to serve their needs in a safe and healthy manner. How the office would be accepting soil samples. How the office would handle Insect, Weed and Disease Identification and Control Recommendations. How Private Pesticide Applicators can complete their needed certification training on- line. How the Covid-19 outbreak is affecting the livestock market and giving producers marketing suggestions. Health Information from the CDC  and Team Kentucky resources. Food Storage Recommendations. An H2A Worker Update. Information on Emergency Preparation Considerations for Beef Cattle Operations. As well as Corn Planting Tips, Small-Scale Gardening and Preventing Grass Tetany information. The Montgomery County Extension Agriculture and Horticulture Facebook Page has posted items on: Strategies for Reclaiming Hay Feeding Areas;  the UK Fencing Schools Video; the UK Horticulture Webinar Series, the April 2020 Forage News; the UK Healthy at Home Newsletter; the UK Beef Management Webinar Series and many other timely event posts. Many of these items have also been used in the ANR agents weekly newspaper articles and two weekly radio programs reaching an audience of over 15000. Also, the entire office staff worked together, but separately on a Gardening To Go Packet received by 51 clients. We are doing our best to still serve our Extension Clientele during this historically trying time.
