Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Urban agriculture has been a catchphrase used across the country for many years.  The popularity, necessity, and willingness to produce foods in an urban setting is, no doubt, a response to food security and peoples concerns (whether right or wrong) about from where their food comes.

In our community (which we think of as rural) ordinances have been written and are on the books that are not conducive or friendly to the urban agriculture movement.  A group of individuals has been diligently working to write a smart, inclusive and sustainable policy that will allow for the urban agriculture movement to take root in our city of Bardstown.  Their first meeting was with Dr. Lori Garkovich over a year ago and progress has been steady since.  In an attempt to inform city councilmen and magistrates about urban agriculture, myself and other representatives were asked to conduct a workshop for the before mentioned audience in regards to the impact and popularity of the Urban ag movements.  Following that meeting, a sponsor stepped forward willing to work with the group to develop a model ordinance for poultry.  The ordinance that came forward has gone before city council once and will have a vote shortly.

We can see from this example that when leaders work together good things can happen in a responsible and meaning full way.
