Diabetes is a prevalent health condition for Fleming County residents. To help people deal with the challenges of diabetes a support group has been formed and functioning for the past two years. In 2019, a volunteer helped arranged for various health professionals to speak to the group each month. After the year of programs and interactions with speakers and each other, there have been many positive changes and results of the participants. One participant is no longer considered pre –diabetic due to watching her daily diet and adding extra activity. Another participant has learned how to use a diabetes smartphone app to make her more accountable. Her numbers went from 173 down to 141 by self-monitoring.An additional member had wonderful results by healthy eating following My Plate. She lowered her A1C from 5.1 to a 4.
This support group has given the participants many new ideas and tools to use in their daily lives and they learn so much from each other.
