Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Beneficial Lifestyle Choices

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

With the COVID-19 pandemic taking the world by surprise, the Governor of Kentucky has requested that people stay at home unless absolutely necessary. A large population reached by Mason County Family and Consumer Sciences include the 306 Extension Homemaker members. The majority of these members are over the age of 60 and deemed high risk for contracting the coronavirus. A fear of the stay at home order includes a feeling of isolation which can lead to depression. In an effort to combat the feelings of isolation and depression in the Mason County Extension Homemakers, the Mason County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent created icebreaker social media posts that have been posted on the Mason County Extension Homemaker Facebook page. The questions range from their favorite Extension Homemaker fundraiser to their favorite book to read. The members are loving the questions and have said they feel connected to their friends and other members again. They like learning about each other as well. The posts have reached over 1,350 people in just one week including people in other counties and states!
